Backflow Preventer Testing and Repair

Testing, repair and replacement of backflow preventers that protect drinking water, with test reports prepared for your water provider.

A backflow preventer is a safety device on your irrigation line. Its job is to stop water from the irrigation system, which may contain fertilizer, soil and bacteria, from flowing backward into the drinking water supply. Many water providers require one on irrigation systems and ask owners to have it tested on a schedule. Devices can fail from freezing, debris and wear, and a failed device is a health risk and a compliance problem.

We test backflow preventers with calibrated gauges and follow the procedure for the type of device installed, whether a pressure vacuum breaker, a double check assembly or a reduced pressure zone device. We repair devices by replacing worn seals, springs and check parts, or we recommend replacement if repair is not sensible. We prepare the test report in the format many providers ask for, and explain what your local requirements are so you stay in good standing. We also advise on insulation and placement to protect the device from freezing.

  2. 02

    Visit and inspect

We walk the property, find the water source and valves, test pressure and flow, look at every head and zone and take photos of anything of note.

    Design and explain

We explain your options for zones, heads, drip, controllers and savings, sketch the layout and give you a written scope with clear timing and pricing.

  4. 04

We install or repair pipe, valves, heads and wiring with the right parts for each zone, flush the lines and keep the site tidy as we work.

We program the controller, test every zone with you, walk through watering and winterizing in plain steps and set a reminder for your next check.

Questions

Backflow Testing and Repair FAQ

What does a backflow preventer do?

It keeps water from your irrigation system from flowing backward into the drinking water supply.

How often does it need testing?

Many providers require testing once a year. Check your provider, and we can remind you each year.

What happens if the device fails the test?

We repair it or recommend replacement, retest it and prepare the report.

Can freezing damage a backflow device?

Yes. Water left inside can freeze and crack it, so winterization and insulation matter.

Do you install new backflow devices?

Yes. We install the type your provider requires and explain how it works.
