Water runs downhill, and so does your water bill. Here is how to irrigate slopes without runoff, dry tops and soggy bottoms.
Hills are part of what makes Middle Tennessee beautiful, and they make irrigation harder. When water lands on a slope faster than the soil can absorb it, the excess runs down. The top of the hill dries out, the bottom floods and the stretch between can erode. Low heads on the slope drain after each cycle and soak the lowest part of the yard even when the zone is off.
Slope irrigation is about slowing down. We use heads and nozzles that apply water gently, group slopes into their own zones and program cycle and soak so water sinks in between short bursts. Check valves in heads at the bottom stop low-head drainage. On steep banks, drip or plantings with deep roots do better than spray. We also look at drainage, because water that has nowhere to go undermines the soil whatever the sprinklers do.
Less runoff.
Slopes separate.
Short bursts.
No low-head flooding.
Slow and precise.
Soil stays put.

Water runs off before it soaks in, so the top gets little. Cycle and soak and slower heads help.
Runoff from above and low-head drainage. Check valves and better programming fix it.
For beds and banks, yes. It applies water slowly and keeps it at the roots.
