Sprinkler Winterization and Blowout

Compressed-air blowouts that clear water from your lines, valves and heads before freezing weather, protecting pipes and parts all winter.

Water expands when it freezes, and a sprinkler system is a network of pipes full of water. In Middle Tennessee, a hard freeze can split pipe, crack fittings and break valves and backflow devices, even though winters are mild compared with the north. The damage is hidden until spring, when the system is turned on and a line bursts. Winterization is a small step that prevents expensive repairs.

We shut off the water supply, drain the backflow device and connect a compressor to the system at a safe pressure. Zone by zone, we push air through the lines until no water comes out of the heads, repeating the cycle for every zone to be sure. We protect the backflow device, set the controller to its rain or off mode and leave a note about the date and what was done. Scheduling before the first hard freeze is important, and we book fall visits early so you get your preferred date.

Air, not guesswork

A properly sized compressor pushes water out of every line and head at a safe pressure.

Every zone, more than once

We repeat the cycle until only air comes out, because water hides in low spots.

Backflow protected

The device is drained and protected, since it is the most expensive part to damage.

Timed before the freeze

We schedule visits ahead of the first hard freeze, and book early so dates are available.

How it works

Our process, start to finish.

  1. 01

    Call and schedule

You tell us about your yard and what you want, a new system, a repair or a tune-up, and we set a visit that fits your day.

  2. 02

    Visit and inspect

We walk the property, find the water source and valves, test pressure and flow, look at every head and zone and take photos of anything of note.

  3. 03

    Design and explain

We explain your options for zones, heads, drip, controllers and savings, sketch the layout and give you a written scope with clear timing and pricing.

  4. 04

    Prepare the site

We arrange for underground utilities to be located, protect the lawn, driveways and beds and mark every head, valve and pipe run before we dig.

  5. 05

    Install or repair

We install or repair pipe, valves, heads and wiring with the right parts for each zone, flush the lines and keep the site tidy as we work.

  6. 06

    Start up and care

We program the controller, test every zone with you, walk through watering and winterizing in plain steps and set a reminder for your next check.

Questions

Winterization and Blowout FAQ

When should I winterize my sprinklers?

Before the first hard freeze, usually late October or early November in Middle Tennessee. We book early so you can pick a date.

Do I really need a blowout in Tennessee?

Yes. Hard freezes happen most winters and can split pipes, valves and backflow devices that still hold water.

Can I do the blowout myself?

It is risky. Too much pressure or the wrong equipment can damage parts. A trained technician uses a safe method.

Will you protect the backflow preventer?

Yes. We drain it and explain how to insulate it if it sits above ground.

What if I forgot and a freeze is coming?

Call us. We prioritize urgent winterizations before a cold snap when we can.
