Low Water Pressure Diagnosis

Weak spray, short throw and misting heads traced to the true cause, whether it is the supply, a partly closed valve, a clog or a design problem.

Sprinklers need the right pressure to work. Too low and rotors do not turn, sprays barely reach and coverage drops. Too high and heads mist into the air and waste water. People notice weak or misting sprays and assume the heads are bad, but the cause is often somewhere else: a valve that is not fully open, a clogged filter, a crushed pipe, a main line leak, an old galvanized supply or a zone that has too many heads for the available flow.

We diagnose pressure with a gauge at the supply and at the zone, compare it with what each head needs and check each possible restriction in turn. We open valves, clean screens and filters and look for leaks and crimps. If the supply itself is weak, we explain the options, from reducing heads per zone to adding a booster pump. If pressure is too high, a pressure regulator brings it down to where heads work efficiently and last longer.

Measure, do not guess

A gauge at the supply and at the zone shows whether the problem is the source or the system.

Check every restriction

Valves, filters, backflow devices and pipes can each hold back flow, and we check them in order.

Fix too high or too low

Regulators tame high pressure and design changes or pumps help when supply is low.

Explain the options

We lay out the choices and costs plainly, so you can decide what makes sense.

What is included

  • Supply pressure and flow test
  • Zone-by-zone pressure checks
  • Valve, filter and backflow inspection
  • Leak and pipe check

How it works

Our process, start to finish.

  1. 01

    Call and schedule

You tell us about your yard and what you want, a new system, a repair or a tune-up, and we set a visit that fits your day.

  2. 02

    Visit and inspect

We walk the property, find the water source and valves, test pressure and flow, look at every head and zone and take photos of anything of note.

  3. 03

    Design and explain

We explain your options for zones, heads, drip, controllers and savings, sketch the layout and give you a written scope with clear timing and pricing.

  4. 04

    Prepare the site

We arrange for underground utilities to be located, protect the lawn, driveways and beds and mark every head, valve and pipe run before we dig.

  5. 05

    Install or repair

We install or repair pipe, valves, heads and wiring with the right parts for each zone, flush the lines and keep the site tidy as we work.

  6. 06

    Start up and care

We program the controller, test every zone with you, walk through watering and winterizing in plain steps and set a reminder for your next check.

Questions

Low Pressure Diagnosis FAQ

Why is my spray weak?

Causes include a partly closed valve, a clogged filter, a leak, too many heads on a zone or weak supply. We test to find which.

Why are my heads misting?

Pressure is probably too high. A regulator or pressure-regulating heads bring it down so water falls as drops, not mist.

Can a booster pump fix it?

If supply is weak, a pump can help. We confirm the cause first, because a pump will not fix a clog or a leak.

Did adding a zone reduce my pressure?

It should not, since zones run one at a time, but each zone must stay within your available flow.

Is my city water pressure the problem?

Sometimes. We measure at your connection and tell you what we find.
