Sod and New Lawn Irrigation

Irrigation that gets new sod and seed established, with frequent light watering at first and a smooth shift to deep, efficient watering as roots grow.

New sod and seed are thirsty and fragile. Sod arrives with a thin layer of roots that cannot reach the soil below, so it needs steady moisture at the surface for the first couple of weeks. Seed needs the top layer kept damp without washing away. After that, the goal flips: roots must be encouraged to grow deep, which means less frequent, deeper watering. A system that cannot do both leaves lawns patchy or shallow-rooted.

We design and program irrigation for new lawns with that arc in mind. Heads are set for head-to-head coverage, because missed spots show up quickly in new turf. We set a starter schedule with short, frequent cycles, then walk you through how to taper it. For sod jobs, we coordinate with your landscaper so heads are set at finished grade before the sod goes down. We also check for runoff and adjust cycles on slopes.

Two-phase watering

Short, frequent cycles at the start, then deeper, less frequent watering as roots establish.

No missed spots

Head-to-head coverage matters most in new turf, where a dry patch turns brown within days.

Set to finished grade

Heads are placed at the final height before sod so they pop up cleanly and cut evenly.

Runoff controlled

Cycle and soak settings prevent puddles and washouts on slopes and in clay soil.

How it works

Our process, start to finish.

  1. 01

    Call and schedule

You tell us about your yard and what you want, a new system, a repair or a tune-up, and we set a visit that fits your day.

  2. 02

    Visit and inspect

We walk the property, find the water source and valves, test pressure and flow, look at every head and zone and take photos of anything of note.

  3. 03

    Design and explain

We explain your options for zones, heads, drip, controllers and savings, sketch the layout and give you a written scope with clear timing and pricing.

  4. 04

    Prepare the site

We arrange for underground utilities to be located, protect the lawn, driveways and beds and mark every head, valve and pipe run before we dig.

  5. 05

    Install or repair

We install or repair pipe, valves, heads and wiring with the right parts for each zone, flush the lines and keep the site tidy as we work.

  6. 06

    Start up and care

We program the controller, test every zone with you, walk through watering and winterizing in plain steps and set a reminder for your next check.

Questions

New Lawn Irrigation FAQ

How often should new sod be watered?

Often at first, in short cycles to keep the surface moist, then less often and deeper as roots take hold. We give you a written taper plan.

Can new sod be watered by hand?

It can, but it is hard to cover evenly. A sprinkler system gives much more consistent results.

What about new seed?

Seed needs the top layer kept damp, with light cycles that avoid washing it away. Slopes need extra care.

How long until I can cut back the watering?

It depends on the weather and the grass, but roots usually take a few weeks. A tug test tells you when sod has rooted.

Do you install sod?

We focus on irrigation and work with your landscaper or sod installer so the system and the lawn fit together.
