Irrigation System Design

A measured, zone-by-zone layout that matches heads, pipe and valves to your water supply, your plants and your property before a single trench is dug.

Design is where an irrigation system succeeds or fails. The same pipe and heads can give perfect coverage in one layout and a patchwork in another. Water supply sets the limits: pressure and flow decide how many heads can run at once, and that decides how many zones a yard needs. Plants, sun, slope and soil decide how much water each area needs and how fast it can take it before runoff starts.

We begin with a flow and pressure test at your connection, then measure the yard and mark areas by use and exposure. We choose head types and nozzles that fit each space, set spacing for head-to-head coverage and group areas into zones with similar needs. You receive a clear drawing and written scope, whether you hire us to build it or simply want a plan. Good design also leaves room for future beds, a pool or an addition.

Start with water

A pressure and flow test shows what your supply can run at once, which sets the number of zones.

Group by need

Sunny turf, shaded beds and slopes get their own zones so none is over or under watered.

Head-to-head spacing

Heads are laid out so spray patterns overlap properly and leave no dry gaps.

Room to grow

We plan spare capacity and valve space so additions do not mean starting over.

How it works

Our process, start to finish.

  1. 01

    Call and schedule

You tell us about your yard and what you want, a new system, a repair or a tune-up, and we set a visit that fits your day.

  2. 02

    Visit and inspect

We walk the property, find the water source and valves, test pressure and flow, look at every head and zone and take photos of anything of note.

  3. 03

    Design and explain

We explain your options for zones, heads, drip, controllers and savings, sketch the layout and give you a written scope with clear timing and pricing.

  4. 04

    Prepare the site

We arrange for underground utilities to be located, protect the lawn, driveways and beds and mark every head, valve and pipe run before we dig.

  5. 05

    Install or repair

We install or repair pipe, valves, heads and wiring with the right parts for each zone, flush the lines and keep the site tidy as we work.

  6. 06

    Start up and care

We program the controller, test every zone with you, walk through watering and winterizing in plain steps and set a reminder for your next check.

Questions

System Design FAQ

Can I get a design without hiring you to install?

Yes. We can provide a layout and written scope, though most owners prefer one team for design and installation.

What does a flow test measure?

Pressure at the connection and the volume of water it can deliver, which set how many heads can run per zone.

How do you decide how many zones I need?

From available flow, the area of each space and the head types. More flow allows larger zones.

Can you design around an existing landscape?

Yes. We work around trees, beds, patios and slopes and avoid damaging roots and hardscape.

Will the design include drip?

Where beds, shrubs or gardens need it, yes. Drip is usually the better choice for planting areas.
